5 tips for optimising your Instagram

Did you know that a huge number of Instagram users use the platform like a search engine? In fact, as of early 2024, 36% of people use Instagram exactly how they would Google when they are searching for information. And to top that off, 35% of all USA Instagram users will make a purchase via Instagram this year.

Why does this matter? Because as a small business or personal brand you can optimise your profile to capture those people who are searching for what you have to offer! When someone is looking for something, they are a warmer lead than someone who just stumbles across your page, so by optimizing your profile you are making sure you show up when people want you.

As well as ensuring you show up in a search query, your Instagram bio is also your first chance to capture your audiences attention. Here's 5 tips to help you optimise you Instagram and turn those searcher into purchasers!

  1. Ensure your bio speaks to the big three - WHO you are, WHAT you offer and HOW you can help with their pain point or issue. Remember there is a word count limit, so you'll need to play around with how you can fit this all in.

  2. Remove all the stuff that people don't need to know and don't relate to your WHO, WHAT and HOW. (eg, that you love dogs, have three kids and are engaged to your loml). Keep your bio clear and focused on your biz or personal brand.

  3. Add in a CTA (call to action). Tell people what you want them to do. Click to find out more? Subscribe to your newsletter? Buy your new masterclass? Tell them and direct them to where you want them to go.

  4. Ensure your links are easily found and click through to the right place. Look into using a LinkTree so all of your links are kept neatly in one place.

  5. Since your bio is searchable, use keywords that apply to your industry as these will help you get found by people searching these terms. Use common searchable terms that people are likely to use when searching for your product or service.

Optimising your Instagram can have a HUGE effect in increasing your reach to non-followers, which in turn helps to attract those dream clients into your space.
